Navajo artisan Tommy Singer is known world wide for his silver art work.
He uses top grade Sterling Silver in all his work and number one grade
natural Sleeping Beauty Turquoise. This amazing Buckle and Bolo Tie
set is cut from Sterling Silver and jeweler's gold entirely by hand.
An absolute masterpiece of overlay. Even the silver bolo tips include
a hand made overlay design. Tommy Singer's work is so popular that it
is copied by many artists, this is your chance to own an original Silver
and Turquoise masterpiece made by Navajo artist Thomas Singer. The Sterling
Silver Buckle is 3" wide by 2-1/4" tall with a 1-1/2"
keeper on the back and the Bolo is 2-3/8" long by 2" wide.
Total length of the 12 ply braided black leather bolo cord is 40"
and it includes matching Sterling bolo tips. The buckle is signed T.
Singer and stamped goldcraft.
Thomas Singer is known throughout the world for his jewelry work. His
overlay pieces incorporate the most traditional of Navajo design - designs
that have endured for many years. Many of these designs are inspired
by Navajo rugs and other traditional designs. Jeweler Thomas Singer
is a Navajo Indian from Winslow, Arizona. Tommy Singer states, "Every
piece is made with the meanings from my traditional ways - the Navajo
way of living. My father was a silversmith. He taught me and wanted
me to continue this trade. It was my father's dream that I learn to
silversmith so that I can continue his belief."
Overlay is created by "sweating" or soldering two pieces of
silver together. The top piece contains a design element which is meticulously
hand cut out of silver. The bottom piece is oxidized and often textured
with stamping to produce a contrasting background. Once together the
work is carefully filed, buffed, and polished to produce this fine finish.
The Sleeping Beauty mine is located near Globe, Arizona. Its turquoise
is noted for its solid, light blue color with no matrix. Sleeping Beauty
turquoise is the favorite of the Zuni Pueblo silversmiths for use in
petite point, needlepoint, and inlay jewelry. This mine is one of the
largest in North America and is still operating.
